FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PSC TO CONDUCT REVERSE AUCTION
Lincoln, June 28, 2022 – The Nebraska Public Service
Commission (PSC), has issued an Order (NUSF-131)
approving a schedule and setting procedures for a
reverse auction to bring broadband service of at least
100 megabits per second up and down to select areas
of Nebraska.
More than $13 million in support will be available to
approved participants in the reverse auction which is
funded through the redistribution of Nebraska Universal
Service Fund (NUSF) support.
“We are eager to conduct a reverse auction,” said
Commission Chair Dan Watermeier. “We see this as
another tool along with other NUSF programs and the
Nebraska Broadband Bridge Grant Program to get
broadband into our rural areas.”
Areas eligible for bidding in the reverse auction
can be viewed on the PSC mapping website under the
Reverse Auction NUSF-131 page of the PSC website.
A pre-auction application form is available on the PSC
website for eligible entities wanting to participate in the
reverse auction. The deadline for pre-applications to be
filed is no later than 5 p.m., July 15. All pre-application
filings must be submitted electronically to < psc.nusf@
nebraska.gov >. The auction is scheduled to begin
August 8.
A reverse auction generally begins with each bidding
unit receiving a starting price, and during successive
rounds of the auction, the price for the bidding unit is
lowered until there is a winning bidder. Additional
details on how the auction will be conducted can be
found on the PSC website.
Commissioner Watermeier said, “It’s been a lot of work
to get to this point. We would like to thank everyone
who contributed to the reverse auction process and
would encourage all eligible entities to participate.”
