Household Goods Movers Licensees

Household Goods Movers are licensed to provide intrastate transportation services of personal effects or property to a dwelling.

In order to operate as a Household Goods Mover in Nebraska, an interested party must apply for and be granted a License to operate by the Nebraska Public Service Commission. The form to apply for license can be found here.

Licenses are valid for one year from the effective date and services are provided statewide unless otherwise noted. A copy of the renewal application can be found here.

INFORMATION FOR LICENSEES

How do I obtain a license?

In order to obtain a license to transport household goods, a qualified applicant must pay a non-refundable license fee of $250 and file a completed application with the principal place of business in Nebraska identified and the applicant agrees and affirms to perform its services in conformance with applicable Nebraska statutes and Commission rules and regulations.

A license may be suspended or revoked by the Commission after notice and hearing for failure to comply with Neb. Rev. Stat. section 75-307 (insurance), any Commission rule or regulation, or any lawful order of the Commission.

How long is the license valid? Do I need to renew?

Licenses are valid for one year and may be renewed for a non-refundable $250 license fee and completing the required renewal forms.  Licenses that are not renewed prior to the license expiration date will be considered expired and the licensee would no longer be authorized to provide services.  An expired license may be reinstated for a non-refundable fee of $250 and completing the required application.

Does the Commission set rates for household goods movers?

As of July 1, 2021, the Commission will no longer set the rates for intrastate household goods moving services. Carriers should file their rates and charges in writing with the Commission whenever the rates are amended.
