FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COMMISSION TO HOLD WORKSHOP ON
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Lincoln, May 13, 2025- The Nebraska Public Service
Commission (PSC) will hold a July workshop to gather
information regarding the current state of housing
affordability in Nebraska.
According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City,
Nebraska’s median home price increased approximately
fifty percent between 2015 and 2022, outpacing income
growth and placing a greater strain on the affordability
of housing statewide.
In its Order (MODF-19/PI-001), the Commission
acknowledges the increasing cost of housing
and the need to explore innovative, safe, and cost-effective
solutions to meet the state’s growing housing needs.
“The Commission regulates the construction of manufactured
and modular housing in Nebraska,” said Dist. 2,
Commissioner Christian Mirch. “Our goal is to bring
stakeholders from industry and government together to
brainstorm ways to promote housing affordability in our
state.”
Beginning at 1:00 p.m. on July 22, the workshop will
consist of a series of stakeholder presentations and a
discussion of focused questions designed to generate a
collaborative approach to dealing with the issue.
Commissioner Mirch said, “We hope to elevate the
conversation as we work toward increasing awareness and
finding solutions to the affordable housing crunch in Nebraska.”
