Vehicle Registration

All vehicles used in the operation of an Authority holder must be registered with the Commission. This can be done through two primary means. First, through a carrier's annual renewal that is due and payable prior to January 1 of each year. Second, throughout the course of the year if a fleet change is necessary.

The per vehicle fee is currently set at $50 per vehicle. Those carriers that register motor vehicles under Nebraska Revised Statute section 60-3,198 are assessed a fee that is the lesser of the proportion of the fleet registered or the number of motor vehicles owned and actually used in intrajurisdiction business within the state.

In order to register a vehicle a Vehicle Registration Form must be completed. This Form requires the carrier to provide the following information for EACH vehicle:

  1. year

  2. make

  3. model

  4. VIN number

  5. vehicle type

  6. DMV plate number

  7. Owner of the vehicle

All information must be accurate for a vehicle to be registered. The owner of the vehicle MUST match the authority holder, if not an Equipment Lease Agreement must be filed. Vehicles not registered through a State DMV will not be available to be registered to use in a carrier's operation. Payment of the vehicle registration must be made through the Commission's online Payport system (found here).

Upon receipt of complete vehicle registration and payment, the Commission will issue one license plate and current registration year sticker to be affixed to the plate for each vehicle.

Vehicle registration Forms can be filed by attaching the document as a pdf and emailing it to PSC.motorfilings@nebraska.gov.
