PSC Joins the State in Recognizing
Public Safety Telecommunicators
Lincoln, April 9, 2021 – In honor of the dedicated dispatcher/
telecommunicators across our great state, the Nebraska Public
Service Commission (PSC) requested and received a proclamation
from Governor Pete Ricketts declaring April 11-17, as Public Safety
Telecommunicators week.
Celebrated the second week of April, National Public Safety
Telecommunicators week was established in 1981, as a time to
commend and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving
the public through their devotion to our citizens and first responders.
“In a year like no other, our dispatcher/telecommunicators continued
to answer the call," said Commission Chair Dan Watermeier. “They
never wavered in their service as they reported to work every day,
putting citizens and emergency services needs ahead of their own.”
Often referred to as unsung heroes, always heard, but rarely seen,
public safety telecommunicators/dispatchers are the initial point of
contact for both the public and first responders during an emergency.
Commissioner Watermeier said, “This proclamation is just a small way
of saying thank you for the important often life-saving role they play on
a daily basis and we hope you’ll join us in
honoring them.” ###
