PSC Promotes National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
 

Lincoln, April 9, 2018- April 8-14 has been proclaimed National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Nebraska.

Members of the Nebraska Public Service Commission and representatives from public safety agencies and Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) recently joined Governor Peter Ricketts for the signing of a proclamation recognizing our state’s public safety telecommunicators/dispatchers.

Established in 1981, the second week of April has been designated as a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public through their devotion to our citizens and first responders.

“This is an exciting time for public safety communications in our state as we work to transition to the next generation of 911 services,” said Commissioner Tim Schram. “Our Public Safety Answering Points and the telecommunication specialists who operate them will play a crucial role in that transition.”

Often referred to as unsung heroes, who are always heard, but rarely seen, public safety telecommunicators/dispatchers are the initial point of contact for both the public and first responders during times of emergency.

Commissioner Schram said, “Please join us in honoring these devoted public servants for the important role they play in the lives of citizens in need.”###
